Our small and committed team is passionate about leading prevention efforts that uplift the community. Combined, we have more than 55 years’ experience working with the Tigard-Tualatin School District and the Tigard community.

Sunshine Navarro Shively

Executive Director

Sunshine joined the team in January 2024. She has worked exclusively in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years and received her Masters degree in Nonprofit Management from Antioch University Los Angeles. Her previous experience includes working in youth leadership development, youth computer literacy, and education. She is currently working on becoming a certified Prevention Specialist and is excited to bring the Communities That Care prevention system to the Tigard community. Sunshine moved from southern California to Oregon in 2018 with her husband and two daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring local hiking trails and belting out tunes from the 2000s.

Connie Ramaekers

Prevention Specialist & Program Coordinator, STUDD Club

Connie is the Founder of Tigard Turns the Tide and has been doing prevention work since 1982. She became among the first certified Prevention Specialists in the state and has worked in the Tigard-Tualatin School District since 1987. She continues to support students as the Program Coordinator of the STUDD Club at Tigard High School. Connie has been an active member of the Tigard community since 1979 by serving on several committees over the past 30 years. Young people are Connie’s passion as she is the mother of 7 children, grandmother of 16 children, and great-grandmother of 9 children. She loves hiking and spending time with family.

Susan Salkield

Board President

Susan is an experienced grant writer and program manager based in Portland, OR. With over 20 years of experience working with public, private, and nonprofit organizations, she specializes in working with and securing funding for community health, education, and social services programs. Susan has managed federal and state grants, led initiatives in school health and mental wellness, and worked on projects that support youth and underserved populations. In addition to her work with non-profit Boards, Susan volunteers as a paralegal with local immigration legal services. In her spare time, she likes seeing plays, attempting to train her dog, and reading very cheap mysteries.
